Stable Block at Gwernyfed High School

The Stable Block at Gwernyfed High School is a Grade II* listed building constructed from grey and pink stone with limestone dressings, matching the main house. It features a red tiled roof and stands two storeys high with attics. The building is arranged around a rectangular inner courtyard, with an open carriageway connecting the front 'U'-shaped block to the rear block.

The front elevation is approximately symmetrical, centered around a carriage arch. Above this arch, there is a 5-light mullioned window set within a raised coped gable, which includes an inset gilded clock, a bas-relief cock, and a tall finial that also features a stone cock. The ground floor is lofty, raised above a high-chamfered plinth, and has small 2-light windows. A string course runs below the low upper floor, which also has 2-light windows. There is a stack located towards the house end, and a small doorway leading to a dog-leg passage that connects to the stable yard. At the center of the roof, there is a lead-clad bellcote with an open white-painted gallery and a dome topped with a windvane finial. The building also features canted dormer windows with flattened disc finials, as well as a stable door and dormer on the east side.

Internally, the elevations that were once coachhouses are tile-hung and have 3-light windows. The ground floor has been altered since the building's conversion.
