Lodge Gates and screen to Gwernyfed High School

The Lodge Gates and screen to Gwernyfed High School, along with continuation walls, feature central sturdy gate piers made of line-rusticated limestone ashlar. These piers have a plinth and moulded cornice, which once displayed crests that have now been removed to Old Gwernyfed. On the outer face of the piers, there are the quarterly arms of Wood and the punning motto "TAURUS GAVD ET IN SILVIS." The plinth continues as a coped plinth wall for iron railings, extending towards the lodge porch on the west and to a terminal pier on the east. The gates are now fixed in an open position and are made of elaborate ironwork with monograms, supported on transverse wrought-iron stanchions.

The lodge itself is set at right angles to the screen and is constructed of grey ashlar with limestone dressings. It has a tiled roof with raised coped gables and a central ribbed brick stack. Facing the driveway, there is a 2-storey timber-framed gabled porch, featuring a timber mullioned and transomed window that jetties on a plastered belly. The openwork porch includes side seats and a turned balustrade, with a timber entrance door set under a depressed arch on colonnettes. The road gable features a 2-storey canted bay, which is tile hung and has mullioned and transomed timber windows on both floors, along with a deep moulded cornice above a flat roof.
