Description
The Owain Glyndwr Institute is a 19th-century L-plan building designed in the Tudor revival style. The ground floor is constructed of rubble, while the upper half is partially rendered. It features a slate roof and rubble chimney stacks. The front has three bays, with a broad bracketed gable on the left that includes a pendant, finial, and a dentil band along the bargeboards. A two-storey porch is set forward at the center, showcasing a similar gable design. The eaves overhang, and there is a garlanded rainwater head. The left side has diamond leaded glazing with mullions and transoms, and a cross frame oriel window with a pediment above the segmental arched entrance, which is accessed through a boarded and studded door.
To the left, the building continues with a similar construction, dominated by a three-storey tower located midway along this side. The tower features a swept pyramidal roof topped with a tall weathervane. There is a gable immediately to the right and a double jettied gable to the left, supported by a low cylindrical column. The tower has a pointed arch doorway.
At the far end of the building, there is a tall pointed arch that mirrors the one on the front, situated between the Institute and the Parliament House. A stepped outhouse to the left has an imitation crenellated parapet.
Inside, the dog-leg staircase has a stone handrail that is partly carved. There are some half-timbered walls and a stone fireplace with half round columns on the ground floor.
