Description

Owain Glyndwr's Parliament House is a Grade I listed building featuring six bays with narrow voussoirs on two and three-light windows, which have diamond leaded glazing. The building has a tall slate roof with rubble end chimney stacks. There is a vertical masonry break to the right of the center at ground floor level. Set back to the right is a pointed arch gateway, topped with a pitched slate roof and boarded gates that connect the Parliament House to the Institute. The rear of the building has eight bays and two storeys, with steps at the right end leading up to an arched entrance that has a gable above. Hipped dormer roofs are present over three tall first-floor windows, which are paired to the left and also feature diamond leaded glazing. The center has four windows above the pointed arch main rear entrance, with a more acutely pointed window to the right. Various masonry breaks and fossils are visible throughout.

The garden is situated above the level of the Parliament House, and the terrace is bordered by a low wall with ball finials.

Inside, the building now serves as an exhibition centre. It is lofted at both ends and contains two service rooms in line. There is a winding staircase at the east end, featuring a panelled dado, tall newel finials, and barley twist balusters. The open bays have arched collar trusses of 15th-century type, with through purlins and three bays that include windbraces. The lofted bays have tie beam and queen strut trusses, along with small windows. A central partition that previously had a screen at the base is now covered by exhibition boards that hide the wall panelling. There is a fireplace below the east end loft, and the west end previously had a screen where the wattle and daub is partly exposed.
