Description
Dolforgan Hall is a Grade II* listed building featuring brick construction with a hipped late roof concealed by raised parapets. The south-facing garden front is rendered and painted brick with stone detailing. The building has three storeys and five symmetrical bays, highlighted by an open loggia supported by four Ionic columns at the center, with the entablature extending to the ends of the structure. The slightly wider end bays each contain a single opening with a moulded and eared architrave, which now serve as doorways. The first floor features plain 12-pane sash windows, while the attic floor has square 6-pane sash windows.
The east elevation also consists of five bays, with pilasters flanking the wider central bay. The central entrance, a six-panelled door, is set within a tetrastyle Ionic portico that has attached pilasters at the back and an iron balustrade on top. There is an interrupted stone string course between the first and second floors, with a parapet adorned with urns over the pilasters and a small central panel displaying a wyvern, which is the Herbert crest. The windows on this elevation include twelve-paned sashes, with the central window above the portico featuring a shallow segmental Adamesque fan tympanum, and six-paned windows on the top floor. A brick extension is located to the north and is set back from the main structure.
Inside, the portico entrance leads into a square hall that connects to a square stair hall at the rear. This stair hall features a wide timber stair with quarter landings, bracketed treads, stick balusters, and a landing adorned with a running scroll. To the south of the stair hall is a parlour, which includes a marble fireplace, an elaborate plaster cornice, and outline-panelled walls. High-quality double mahogany doors open into the former dining room located in the east corner of the house, which also has a marble fireplace, line-panelled walls, a moulded cornice, and an oval patterned ceiling. At the southwest rear of the stair hall, there is an added billiard room that features a top lantern and a recessed gothic cupboard.
