Description
The Castle, formerly known as The Castle Public House, is a two-storey building featuring a three-window front that is finished in white roughcast with black-painted detailing. The bowed walling indicates jettying at the first-floor level. It has a slate roof with end bargeboards and brick stacks, along with a modern flat-roofed dormer that includes a cut-down Venetian window and a dentil cornice.
On the first floor, there are two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in flush frames. To the right, there is a two-storey splayed bay, and to the left, a 19th-century ground floor bay with heavy detailing. The large central bay on the ground floor features fixed glazing and an overall lean-to roof, supported by plain columns on either side of the doors.
The left gable end and rear of the building display timber studding with brickwork infill. A massive rear stack, heightened in red brick and topped with a moulded cornice, adds to the structure's character.
