Description
The Wheatsheaf is a public house located on Church Street in Tempsford, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building features colourwashed roughcast render, which appears to include some timber framing, and has clay tile roofs, with the right-hand part having a slightly steeper pitch.
The front block is divided into two sections: the left-hand part has a three-window range, while the earlier right-hand part has a two-window range with a lower eaves level. The building is two storeys high with attics. The left part has a central doorway with a six-panel door, topped by a flat hood supported by cut brackets. To the right, there is a canted bay window with sash windows that have glazing bars. Other windows on the ground and first floors are two-light casements with top lights, all featuring glazing bars. The attic includes two hipped dormers with two-light casements. The right part has two-light casements with top lights and glazing bars as well. A coved plaster eaves cornice is present only on the right part. At the junction of the two blocks, there is a red brick multiple ridge stack. The rear of the building has various additions that project outward.
