Description
Bryn y Brain is a two-storey, two-window farmhouse built from shaley rubble stone and finished with limewash, topped by a slate roof featuring stone end stacks. The entrance is slightly offset to the right of center and consists of a boarded door set beneath a slate-hung lintel. To the right of the door is a two-light wooden casement window, also with a slate-hung lintel, while to the left is a larger three-light casement window, believed to date from the 1930s. The upper storey features two two-light wooden casement windows beneath the eaves, and there is a tiny light on the south gable end.
At the rear, there is a boarded door on the left end, which may have served as a former lobby entrance, also with a slate-hung lintel. Immediately to the right of this door is a six-pane window with a similar lintel. Further to the right is a lean-to constructed of corrugated iron, which has a doorway on its left return. The upper storey has a small two-light wooden casement window on the left. Attached to the north gable end is a small stone structure that likely contained a granary, featuring a three-light wooden window on the north side and external stone stairs leading to a planked door on the gable end.
Inside, the main room at the south end has a large stone fireplace with a moulded timber lintel. An enclosed timber staircase is located to the right side of the fireplace. The ceiling features a spine beam with a shallow chamfer and cut stops, along with plain joists. The smaller room to the north has been divided, with a stair hall at the front that includes an early 21st-century timber staircase, and a bathroom at the rear. To the left of the entrance is the former outbuilding, now used as a kitchen, which has a ceiling with chamfered joists.
