Description

This is a two-storey former rectory, dating from the 18th century, with a short rear range at a right angle to the north. The building is constructed primarily of random slate, which was formerly whitewashed, and is roofed with slate, featuring gables and plain bargeboards. Stone stacks are present, one to the ridge of the main range, one to the north end of the north range, and one to the end of the small service range on the west side. The front of the house faces east, and the garden front faces south, both featuring 12-pane hornless sash windows with square slate hoodmoulds above.

The east-facing entrance front has a doorway offset to the right, containing a 20th-century panelled door with a large overlight featuring margin glazing, and a sash window above. An inscribed datestone is located in the lower right side of the front. The rear range is continuous to the right, featuring a sash window to each storey beneath a gablet. The south-facing garden front has two windows; the tall ground-floor windows have blockings indicating the presence of earlier, full-height or earlier windows. Gablets top the upper-storey windows, and small lights are present for access to the cellar. The west gable end is mostly slate-hung and has a small, late 20th-century window offset to the left of the upper storey. The west side of the north range connects to the main range and is partially rendered. The north gable end of the north range has a three-light 20th-century window on the ground floor, and a 12-pane hornless sash with a slate lintel above.

A low service range adjoins the west side of the house and has a small 20th-century window in its gable end, inserted into what was formerly a fireplace. The north and south sides each have a 20th-century window. A gabled porch is situated in the angle between the service range and the north range, with a 20th-century wooden door facing north. A slate tablet inscribed in Latin with the date 1850 is attached to the west gable.

Inside, a stairhall is located behind the front entrance, featuring a wooden staircase curving towards the base. The staircase has plain, narrow balusters and a moulded wreathed handrail with decorated tread ends. Four rooms lead off the hall: a dining room to the southeast, a living room to the southwest, a kitchen to the northwest, and a study to the northeast. While partly modernised, the interior retains panelled doors and dado rails within the principal rooms. Beyond the kitchen is the service range. The original fireplace in this area has a large cambered timber lintel, although the fireplace itself has been replaced with a window. A bakeoven with a cast iron door is retained to the left side.
