Barn at Plas Nant-y-Meichiaid

The barn at Plas Nant-y-Meichiaid is a 17th-century timber-framed structure clad with weatherboarding and topped with a corrugated iron roof. It features a cantilevered western end with a quarter-hipped roof that shelters grain pitching doors. There are four high-level shuttered openings and a lean-to at the eastern end.

The barn consists of five bays, with three open in the center. Between the center and the wall posts, there is horizontal boarding that stands 1 meter high. Tension braces are present throughout. Trusses two and five have full square panel framing that is three panels high, with boarding infilling up to the lower rail and formerly woven infilling above. Each truss includes three queen struts to the collar and raking struts to the principal rafters, which support two tiers of purlins. The original rafters remain intact. The wall frames are also three panels high and lack corner braces, featuring boarding infill in the lowest panel, with some tension struts to the sills.
