Description

The building comprises a chapel with attached forecourt railings and a small adjacent building known as Ty Capel. The chapel itself dates to 1819 and is constructed of painted stucco with a slate roof finished with small terracotta finials. The front facade features two large sash windows with 24 panes of glass, lacking horns, set within painted sills. Doors are set within early 20th century gabled, lean-to porches with slate roofs, terracotta ridge tiles and finials, and open timberwork in the gable ends. Stucco quoins and surrounds frame the windows, incorporating keystones, likely dating from the early 20th century. A modern plaque indicates "Sammah Capel yr Annibynwyr Adeiladwyd 1819" (Sammah Welsh Independent Chapel Built 1819). The left-hand gable is of rubble stone with a 12-pane sash window, while the rear has two 24-pane sash windows. The right-hand gable is clad in slate and features a 12-pane window on the ground floor, located behind Ty Capel.

A small forecourt is defined by iron railings set on a stone plinth with flat slate copings, fronting the chapel. The uprights are topped with fleur-de-lis finials, and double gates are centrally placed, also incorporating fleur-de-lis finials on the lower rails. Octagonal posts topped with urns are positioned on either side of the gates, with additional urns on the corner posts. One post displays a label reading 'W. Turner, Cambrian Foundry, Newtown'.

Ty Capel, originally three one-window cottages and now configured as one dwelling, features a painted rubble stone front with a slate roof and three stone chimney stacks. It has a paired casement window on each floor and a front door to the left, with timber lintels, 20th-century shutters, and boarded doors featuring lozenge glazing panels. The rear and end walls are of rubble stone.

The chapel has a low front wall with railings incorporating spearhead-topped rails and centre paired gates, with thin uprights topped with urns.

The chapel interior lacks galleries, with a plain ceiling. Access is provided through later 19th-century lobbies situated on either side of the pulpit. The interior contains painted, grained box pews arranged in three blocks, raked upwards in five steps, with panelled backs and doors. There are also inward-facing pews with high backs situated between the pulpit and the entry lobbies, and a plain 'set fawr' with a panelled back. The pulpit is simple, with a panelled, canted front and steps up each side featuring stick balusters and turned newels. A marble memorial commemorates the Reverend Hugh Morgans, minister at Sammah and Nebo chapels for 52 years, who died in 1880. The memorial is signed “D.R. Williams Llanelly”.
