Description

Gribin is a tall, two-storey, three-window house built from whitewashed random stone and topped with a slate roof, featuring stone end stacks. The openings are slightly offset to the right. A later addition to the left end is also made of whitewashed stone and shares the same roofline, with a brick end stack. The main part of the house has a central entrance with an open gabled porch supported by timber posts, which have moulded barge boards and a pendant finial. Inside, there is a half-lit panelled door with a three-pane overlight. The house has small four-pane horned sash windows with stone sills, which feature stone lintels on the lower storey and timber lintels above. There are no openings on the north gable end. The additional unit has an inset half-lit panelled door on the far left and a four-pane sash window immediately to its right, both under the same late 20th-century lintel. There is a similar four-pane sash window aligned above, reaching up to the eaves, and a uPVC window offset to the south gable end.

At the rear, there is a lower two-storey wing with a stone end stack that has been heightened in brick. The main range features a late 20th-century plain-glazed window on each storey to the left of the wing, and a small uPVC window immediately to the right of the wing on the upper storey. Further to the right, the additional unit has a uPVC window on the lower storey, with a small lean-to adjacent to it. In the north angle between the main range and the wing, there is a small part-glazed lean-to porch with a corrugated plastic roof, which contains a door leading into the wing. To its right, there are top-hung windows on each storey. There is also a small lean-to with a corrugated metal roof against the gable end of the wing, and a continuous outshut on the south side with one shallow window.

Inside, the central stair-hall has a high ceiling with plain joists. A straight wooden staircase on the right side features narrow square-section balusters, turned newels, and a moulded handrail. The living room on the left has a lower ceiling with two medium-chamfered spine beams, and some of the joists are also chamfered. There is a wide stone fireplace with a substantial timber lintel. The reception room on the right was not seen. The rear wing, now used as a kitchen, is open to the outshut, with the dividing wall removed. The ceiling in this area has two spine beams with shallow chamfers and plain joists.
