Description

The Old Rectory is an 18th-century building with an L-shaped plan, featuring a symmetrical front range and a rear wing. It stands two storeys tall and likely has a cellar. The exterior is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork painted white, topped with a slate roof and brick end stacks. A dentilled eaves course adds detail to the roofline.

The front elevation faces east and consists of three windows. The central entrance, which originally served as the main door, features French windows flanked by 25-pane horned sash windows, all set under brick arched heads. The upper storey contains 9-pane horned sash windows with flat-arched, gauged brick heads. The rear wing is lower and likely serves as the service area, featuring a cat slide roof on its north side, which appears to be an original feature. Below this roof is a panelled rear door with a top light, framed by a moulded door frame. To the right of the door is a 16-pane sash window within a moulded frame, and there is a similar 12-pane sash window on the rear elevation of the front range.

The south elevation showcases the rendered gable end of the front range and the side of the rear range, containing various sash windows and small pane casements. A small lean-to is attached to the end of the rear range, featuring a planked door and a 20th-century window.

The three-bay plan of the front range has been preserved. The staircase is positioned to the south of the French windows, which were formerly the front door, although the lowest flight has been turned 90 degrees. The rear range has undergone alterations, and it is noted that there was likely a second staircase between the two ranges, intended for servants. Original details include the staircase and panelled doors.
