Description

Llwyn-y-brain is likely a timber-framed three-unit house with a 20th-century flat-roofed extension at the rear. It has one storey and an attic. The front (east) elevation and the north end are covered in slate, while the south end and the rear are timber-framed with brick nogging on a brick plinth; the rear extension is made of brick. The house has a slate roof and features two brick external stacks from the 19th century, which replace a likely central stack that would have been positioned opposite the entrance, located just south of the center. The front has a window on each side of the entrance, plus a small window next to the front door. The planked front door is set within a small timber-framed porch that includes French doors. In the attic, there are two slated dormers with barge boards. At the rear, timber framing is visible above and inside the extension, consisting of three panels high with cross braces and narrow horizontal bars within some panels. This same pattern is also seen in the north gable, where it extends behind the stack. The house has modern uPVC windows that are said to replace earlier open casements from the 20th century in the same openings.

The original three-unit plan is still evident, but the internal partitions are from the 20th century. Original moulded spine beams are present in the two end bays, with the one in the north bay featuring an engraving that reads: G.H. 1680. The staircase is located at the rear of the central bay, likely replacing a former rear door and chimney.
