Description
Forden Signal Box is a two-storey structure built from brick and timber boarding. It features a projecting plinth and a glazed gallery with horizontally sliding windows on the trackside elevation and gable returns. A continuous dark blue brick string and plinth course banding runs below the gallery. The gabled slate roof has deep eaves, wave pattern barge boards, and gable finials.
On the main (east) trackside elevation, there are two round-headed small pane cast iron windows on the brick ground floor, which have stone cills at plinth level and window heads that align with the string course. Above, the glazed gallery contains four sliding cross windows. The north elevation has a projecting timber first floor with a single window and is open to the left, featuring timber steps and handrails. The gallery continues behind with a part glazed panelled door to the right. The north elevation also includes a return of the gallery with two sliding windows and one fixed window. The rear (west) elevation is made of plain banded brick and has a projecting boarded upper floor to the left.
Both floors have been converted; the locking room below is now a workshop, while the lever room above retains its timber floor with a division for the former lever frame.
