Description
The Gaer is a two-storey building constructed of roughcast brick with slate roofs. It features a main northeast-southwest range that contains the primary reception rooms, flanked by short rear wings at each end. The southeast front has five bays arranged in a rhythm of a-b-a-b-a, with tripartite sash windows consisting of 12 and 9 panes in the a bays. The upper windows are fitted with louvred shutters. The second bay includes a pedimented doorcase with a six-panel beaded door and a rose motif on the entablature fascia, along with a 9-pane sash window above on the first floor. A later addition is a glazed door with a pediment, now located in the second bay b. Above the central three bays, there is a triangular pediment with a small central oculus, set above a moulded cornice. The building has brick gable stacks topped with yellow clayware pots, with a similar stack positioned centrally at the rear of the main range. The rear range features 19th-century 12-pane sash windows and gable stacks. Attached to the northeast end is a parallel two-bay building made of painted brick, which has a gable stack and 19th-century timber windows with cambered heads on the ground floor. The property was not accessible during the inspection in October 1996.
