Description

Park Junction Signal Box is a long two-storey structure made of brick and timber boarding, featuring a continuously glazed gallery on the trackside elevation with small pane horizontally sliding sash windows. The building has a gabled slate roof with ridge ventilators, gable finials, and plain bargeboards.

The main (north) trackside elevation includes six blocked round-headed windows on the brick ground floor, with a glazed gallery above that has nine sliding sashes and two fixed windows. A sign reading 'PARK JUNCTION' is mounted on the cill of the gallery, with evidence of an earlier sign visible on the brickwork below. The eastern (entrance) elevation features timber steps leading up to a projecting timber boarded gabled entrance lobby, which has a part-glazed door and a six-light window. There is a former nine-light window to the right, and the brick ground floor has a boarded door. The western elevation is also brick at the ground floor, continuing the glazed gallery above with paired sliding sashes that have been replaced with uPVC. The ground floor also has a boarded gable. The gallery continues to the rear elevation, which has one sliding sash, two sliding sashes on the first floor, and three blocked round-headed openings on the ground floor. The blocked openings at ground floor level were formerly used for rods or wires to operate the points or signals for the tracks, which have now been removed.

Inside, the upper floor retains the operating floor with locking levers, a block shelf, bells, and a track layout plan. There is a later interlocking panel at the low end. The lower floor has an intact ten-lever frame from 1920 on a timber floor, and small pane windows survive in the south wall behind later blocking.
