Description
Castell-y-Dail Farmhouse is an L-shaped farmhouse with earlier origins, dating back to the 18th century. It is two storeys tall and features a three-window front made of Flemish bond brick. The gently pitched slate roof is hipped to the left, with deep eaves and verges adorned with ornamental bargeboards. The farmhouse has tall twin octagonal flues on a rectangular base that rise from the central brick stack.
On the first floor, there are three-light casement windows flanking a central two-light window. The ground floor has broader two-light casements with cambered header arches above them. The plain central doorway also has a cambered head and was formerly a lobby entry. The right elevation is timber framed, showcasing a high collared cruck with a later tennoned tie beam. The blades have been removed below the elbow, and there is a later beam on square framing. The eaves have been raised with light 19th-century framing. The left elevation is similar to the main front, with a later range added to the rear.
There is a contemporary two-storey brick outhouse with a gabled slate roof and a brick end stack. Inside, there is a single stop-chamfered axial ceiling beam in the room adjoining the timber-framed gable.
