Description
Commonleys Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick, with some limestone rubble and timber framing, topped by an old plain-tile roof and brick gable stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and stands one storey plus attics. The front has two windows arranged in header-bond, featuring a moulded brick plinth and a dentil eaves course, with vertical strips of red headers between areas of vitrified brickwork. A central glazed door is flanked by two segmental-arched three-light casements. There are two gabled two-light dormers, which are likely not original. To the right, there is a hipped gable outshut with a rubble base, and the end wall is timber framed and was formerly open at the ground floor. The left end has large projecting chimneys on both ranges with moulded brick offsets. The rear of the farmhouse has a similar plinth and eaves but is built in Flemish bond, featuring an additional segmental-arched door and casements. The roof is double-span. Inside, there are chamfered beams and large brick-arched open fireplaces.
