Description
Trederwen House is a Grade II* listed farmhouse built in 1616, with alterations made in the 19th century. The structure is timber framed with lath and plaster infill, partially covered in brick during the 19th century, and features slate roofs. It has two storeys, with the main block dating from the 16th to 17th century, and a cross wing at the northeast end that was extended in heavy framing to the rear. The main block is further extended forward at the southwest end with a brick wing, and there is an 18th to 19th-century extension at the rear, adjacent to the northeast wing.
The entrance is located in a framed gabled two-storey porch that projects forward against the northeast wing. This porch is close studded, open at the front, and includes lateral seats. The studded door features hollow chamfered cover beads and has been restored. The northeast wing has a double jettied first floor and gable, constructed with small squared framing and curved braces. The jetty beams are decorated with simple strapwork, and one beam in the porch is dated but largely eroded. The ground floor of the wing includes a 20th-century canted bay window. Inside the porch chamber, there is an external frame supported by carved brackets, and the porch features perforated 19th-century bargeboards and finials.
The side elevation of the northeast wing has an external stack for the front room, although the fireplace has been removed internally. There is a tapered carved turned baluster bracket under the eaves plate corbel. The main range stack creates a lobby inside the entrance, and there is a 17th-century balustered stair lateral to the main range against the front wall. A lateral stack is located in the southwest wing behind a lean-to outbuilding, and the front of this end features doubled chamfered spine beams.
