Description
Castle Vaults Public House and 47 Broad Street in Newtown is a three-storey building with a cellar, featuring a three-window facade constructed from Flemish bond brick. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there is a blocking course along with a plain cornice. The rear gables are bargeboarded, and there are plain brick stacks. The second-floor windows have shallow six-pane sashes, while the first floor features twelve-pane sashes. The windows have slightly cambered gauged brick voussoirs, plain reveals, and stone sills.
The shop unit at No 47 showcases good Regency design, with a crested cornice above a multipaned bowed front that includes a centrally recessed doorway. The side reveals have bars, and there is a diamond fanlight above the entrance. The stallrisers are made of brick, and there are stone steps leading up to the door. The Castle Vaults has a modern front, while the rear elevations also display gauged brick voussoirs and sash windows.
