Description
Castle Vaults Public House and 47 Broad Street in Newtown is a three-storey building with a cellar, constructed from Flemish bond brick. It features a hipped slate roof, a blocking course, and a plain cornice. The rear has bargeboarded gables and plain brick stacks. The second-floor windows have shallow six-pane sashes, while the first-floor windows are twelve-pane sashes, both with slightly cambered gauged brick voussoirs, plain reveals, and stone sills.
Number 47 has a well-preserved Regency shop front, which includes a crested cornice over a multipaned bowed front with a recessed doorway at the center. The side reveals feature bars, and there is a diamond fanlight above. The shop has brick stall risers and stone steps. The Castle Vaults has a modern front, while the rear elevations also display gauged brick voussoirs and sash windows.
