Description
41 Low Pavement is a building with an 18th-century facade made of painted brick. It features a parapet with a moulded cornice and bands at the first, second, and above the second floor levels. The building has rusticated quoins and three round-headed arches with keystones supported by columns, with the outer arches being rusticated, forming a ground floor arcade. There is a modern recessed shop front at the rear. The structure has three storeys and an attic window in the gable end. The main facade on the northern side has three windows, but the entire building is advanced by one bay, allowing for an additional window on each side that looks east and west along Low Pavement. The first-floor windows are casements with a mullion, transom, and late 19th-century to early 20th-century leaded glazing. The second floor has casements with 19th-century and modern glazing, although the eastern side window is blocked. There is a rear wing, and the interior features some exposed ceiling beams. The building was formerly known as the Castle Vaults, with an arch under the eastern side leading to the former Castle Yard.
