Description
Candlewick Cottage, located at 25 and 26 Salop Road in Overton, is a Grade II listed building constructed from sandstone ashlar with slate roofs, designed in the Tudor Gothic style. This single-storey structure is symmetrically planned, featuring a central gable and two flanking gables divided by recessed bays. Originally intended as three two-unit dwellings, it includes a central range and two cross wings.
The central entrance, which is now disused but remains intact, has a narrow porch with a steep pedimented gable that echoes the arch over the doorway, along with an inscription in the tympanum. Flanking the entrance are renewed casement windows, leading to the symmetrical outer gables. Each of these outer gables features a canted bay window with stone mullioned and transomed arched lights and iron casements. The gables are adorned with fleurons, topped with pinnacles, and have an embattled parapet that extends across the front and return elevations. The return elevations also have similar gabled central porches and renewed casement windows on either side.
