Description

The Cottage, dated 1834, is a building with an irregular plan designed in a free Tudor-Gothic style, characteristic of Church Lane. It is primarily constructed from coursed lias rubble, with some pennant stone mixed in, and features slate roofs adorned with cusped and scalloped bargeboards on the gables, as well as octagonal chimney shafts, some of which are missing.

The main part of the building, facing north, is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with a central projecting wing. This wing includes a three-light mullion window with drips and moulded heads in the gable, featuring patterned cast-iron glazing. The entrance is located on the inward face beneath a Tudor arch, which has a relieving arch above and a blind panel. To the left of the entrance is a single light Tudor arch window with patterned glazing.

To the west, there is a gabled crosswing linked by a wall that has a modillion cornice and moulded capping. The end gable of this wing has the date carved into the chimney breast, with one window on each side. The south front has three bays, featuring two-light Tudor arch casements with patterned glazing, relieving arches on the first floor, and drips on the ground floor. There is also a single storey gabled extension to the left.
