Description
The Former Llay Hall Colliery Engine House is a building constructed of red brick on a blue brick plinth, topped with a corrugated roof. It features round-headed windows with blue brick arches and metal frames, which include concentrically and radially glazed fanlights. The northern section of the building has blue brick and terracotta string courses and eaves cornices. The larger section is a tall gabled structure that runs from south-west to north-east. It has three low-level windows on the south-west gable, and originally had five openings on each side elevation; however, one opening on the north-west side has been replaced with a large sliding door. The roof appears to have been raised and re-covered at some point, and it includes a longitudinal raised vent. Inside, there is a travelling crane made by Herbert Morris Ltd. In the north-east corner, there is a small square block with a hipped slate roof and high brick parapets, which may have been associated with the fan drift. This block is connected to a wing oriented north-west to south-east, which also has a hipped slate roof and likely housed the fan engines.
