Description
Lower Stansty Farmhouse is a 17th-century building featuring a painted brick front elevation and lined-out render on the rear elevations. It has a moulded stone plinth on the cross wing and parts of the main range, stone quoins, and a red plain tiled bell-cast roof with a pronounced overhang. The gables are topped with stone copings and moulded kneelers. The main range has axial stacks that have been rebuilt, along with a lower west wing and a projecting end-wall stack on the west gable of the main range.
The layout consists of a main range and a cross-wing, with a lower wing extending from the main range beyond the cross wing. There are opposed entrances at the angle of the main range and cross wing, and the main range is organized as a two-unit structure. The main elevation faces north, featuring a doorway in the angle with an advanced gable to the right, which has a ledged doorway with a canopy hood.
The early fenestration in the main range and gable includes steep single-ring arched openings, with a coped dormer gable above the right-hand window of the main range. The main range has small-paned, two-light horizontally sliding sash windows, although the lower left-hand window has been inserted. The cross wing features similar small-paned casement windows.
On the rear of the main range, there is a doorway to the left with a nine-pane sash window above it, paired similar windows over a three-light casement beyond, and three-light horizontally sliding sash windows on each floor to the right, all with small panes. The gable of the cross wing has inserted windows, while the lower west wing has a doorway with an inserted window above. The east gable of the main range has a blocked two-light mullioned window towards its apex.
