Description

Wingett House is a building rendered over brick with a slate roof, standing three storeys high and featuring a three-window range with a central entrance. The doorway has an overlight and is framed by a moulded architrave with console brackets supporting an entablature hood. The ground floor has been altered to include inserted shop and office frontages. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows, with a narrower 12-pane sash window above the entrance. The top storey features two-light casement windows alongside a central 6-pane sash window. There is a plain wood eaves cornice and end wall stacks.

Next to it, No 24 is also rendered over brick with a slate roof, two storeys high and with a two-window range and central entrance. This entrance has a panelled door with a radial fanlight, also framed by a moulded architrave with brackets to an entablature hood. Each floor has flanking 2-pane sash windows, one of which has been renewed. It has a plain eaves cornice and a blocking course, with an axial stack positioned towards the rear.

Internally, Wingett House has been adapted for office use, leading to several changes in the internal layout. However, some original features remain, including a 18th-century Rococo style cast iron fireplace with a reeded wood surround, plaster cornices, and an upper staircase with plain spindles and turned newels.
