Description
Primrose Cottage is a Grade II listed building that features a combination of painted brick, render, stone, and timber framing, with a slate roof and brick chimneys, some of which are rendered. The cottage has a long, curved street frontage adorned with a dentil eaves cornice and projecting gabled bays at each end. It is symmetrical, with a slightly projecting central bay that includes a segmental pediment and an entrance with an arched head and pediment. Flanking this entrance are three grouped arched windows, a single arched window, and a door featuring an arched opening, triangular pediment, and heavy label. The upper floor boasts a large Diocletian style tripartite window. The gables have upswept roofs, and the dentil cornice extends for a short distance at the eaves level. The first floor has large arched openings, one of which on the left is partly blocked, along with 20th-century bowed windows at the ground floor. The return elevations showcase full-height semicircular bays and a similar arrangement of arched openings. The rear elevation includes central garage doors with a taking-in door above and gabled dormer windows.
Stone Cottage, part of the same group, features timber-framed walls and stone plinths, clad with brick skin walls on the exterior elevations, and has an inserted ceiling made of roughly chamfered timbers. Romney Cottage has been remodelled in the 20th century, while the interiors of the other cottages were not accessible during the 1995 survey. Primrose Cottage has group value with Holly Cottage, Beech Cottage, and Roft Lee.
