Description
Farley's Cottage is a Grade II listed building that consists of two cottages now combined into one house. It dates from the late 17th century and 18th century. The structure features a square-panelled timber frame set on a rubble stone plinth, with painted brick nogging and a half-hipped thatched roof. There is a brick stack located at the gable end of the timber-framed section. The timber frame extends to the west in rubble stone and the building is single-storey with an attic, displaying two windows.
The ground floor includes two planked doors and three two-light casements, while the attic features two eyebrow dormers with two-light casements. The eaves of the right-hand section were raised in the 20th century. The right return has two 20th-century casements and a planked door, while the left return has 20th-century casements as well. There is a rear lean-to extension.
Inside, the cottage boasts a large open fireplace with a cambered chamfered lintel set on stone jambs. The ground floor has chamfered beams with jewel stops, and the doors are either planked or four-panelled from the 19th century. The first floor reveals an exposed cross frame and rear timber-framed wall, with chamfered beams featuring run-out stops.
