Description
2 Grosvenor Road is a building designed in a simplified Italianate villa style, constructed from brick with some ashlar dressings and topped with a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and features a three-window range on the entrance front facing Grosvenor Road, which includes a central entrance flanked by advanced outer gables. On the Regent Street side, there is also a three-window range with an advanced central gable.
The entrance is located in a narrow central bay, which is recessed within a porch supported by coupled rusticated and panelled pilasters that hold up an entablature. The advanced outer gables feature canted stone bay windows with full-height sashes that have two panes each. The upper storey has two-pane sash windows set within stone architraves, and there is a stone sill band that continues across the return elevations.
The gables are topped with a pedimented design, featuring a painted modillion cornice that extends across the central bay. The return elevation facing Regent Street has a pedimented central gable, with the cornice continuing over a full-height canted stone bay window that has shallow segmentally arched lights, keystones, and bracketed sills. The flanking windows on this elevation are in moulded stone architraves, with segmental arches on the ground floor. The opposite return elevation is similar but does not include the central bay window.
At the rear, the axial stacks of the advanced gabled wings are both truncated, while the rear wall stacks still retain their oversailing stone caps.
