Description
55 King Street is a brick building with a slate roof, dating from the 18th century. It is situated as a three-storey terrace. The front elevation, facing King Street, is divided into three main sections, each with three windows. Narrow recessed bays separate these sections, each containing a six-panelled door leading to a passage, and a single eight-pane sash window above. The main blocks between the recessed bays feature three segmental arches on the ground floor. The outer arches contain tripartite sash windows (some replaced), while the inner arches originally held doorways with six-panelled doors (many of which have been renewed), and are decorated with cast iron medallions on either side. Upper floors have twelve-pane sash windows with flat, arched brick detailing above. The top floor features windows with six panes. The corner of Rhosddu Road is curved, with a segmental arch on the ground floor above a twelve-pane sash window, followed by a two-window return. A renewed entrance has been added here. Chimneys are situated towards the rear of the building. Adjoining the terrace on the Rhosddu Road elevation is a former coach house, now used as offices. Lower windows have been inserted into this building, although the relieving arches of the earlier openings remain visible above, along with stone-dressed oculi.
