Description
The Hawarden Gymnasium is a 5-bay hall constructed of red brick, featuring a gable with shaped ball finials and a symmetrical facade with two windows. The roof is slated. The central entrance is arched, with plain voussoirs and Renaissance relief decoration in the tympanum, which includes a cartouche inscribed with "Hawarden Gymnasium." The entrance has plain modern double doors and is surrounded by pilasters, topped with a moulded and dentilated brick cornice, along with a similar interrupted string course. On either side of the entrance are two arched-headed windows that are near-flush, also with plain voussoirs and tympana. These windows consist of two-part, 8-pane casements. There is lozenge decoration in blue headers at the upper center and a framed Renaissance cartouche displaying the date 1891. A contemporary single-storey extension is located at the rear.
