Description
The barn to the northeast of Pentrehobyn is a large rubble estate building that serves as a barn, with a cartshed at the uphill end and a cowhouse at the downhill end. It features a slate roof, gable parapets, and kneelers that are similar to those found on the warden's house. The barn has distinctive circular pitching eyes with dressed stone surrounds, with seven on the south side and four on the north side, some of which are blocked.
On the south side, facing the walled garden, there are bricked-up camber-headed openings, including the offset barn entrance, the cartshed to the left, and three cowhouse doorways to the right. Flanking the barn entrance are several tiers of slit ventilators. The brick blocking of the openings likely dates from the creation of the walled garden, as the handmade brick resembles that used for the garden walls and is possibly from the 18th century or, at the latest, the early 19th century.
The west gable end, which is uphill, features cambered voussoir openings. The north side has slate-roofed lean-tos at either end; the eastern one is a larger cattleshed addition with grey stone quoins. The barn entrance has boarded doors and the interior includes a large three-bay central barn with king-post roof trusses. There are steps leading up to the west over the cartshed and to the east over the cowhouse.
