Description
Pentrehobyn Lodge is a mid-19th century gate-lodge for Pentrehobyn, a large 16th century H-plan house built for the Lloyd family. It is possibly designed by Thomas Jones, an architect from Chester, who also added a rear service range to the main house. The lodge is one storey plus an attic and is built in a simple Jacobethan style. It features dressed, snecked sandstone with coped and kneelered gable ends. The medium-pitched slate roof has a plain central chimney with simple moulding.
The road-facing side has an advanced L shape with a steeply-gabled porch projection. There is a cross-window on the road side and a depressed-arched entrance on the return, which has a recessed, boarded door. The recessed section to the right has another cross-window. To the right gable face, there is a canted single-storey bay with a cross-window in the center and a hipped, felt roof. Above this bay is a heraldic plaque with a motto beneath. The gable apex has another cross-window, and there are two additional cross-windows on the ground floor of the rear gable end, with similar windows above.
This gate-lodge remains largely unaltered and is situated in a prominent location, attributed to the work of Thomas Jones, architect of Chester.
