Description
Glasgow House, which includes County Cleaners, Halifax Building Society, and Shoe Repairs, is a single-storey building with a U-plan layout. It features a symmetrical six-window front made of whitewashed brick, with a stepped plinth and a dentil cornice. The central entrance has a tall open pedimented doorcase with double boarded doors. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there is a red brick chimney stack with later capping. The windows are 12-pane sash style, each with cambered voussoir heads.
The rear of the building is also whitewashed brick but has undergone modern alterations. A small courtyard at the back includes a relocated cast-iron lamp-post and is enclosed by a revetment wall that has been heightened in brick, with the grounds of the old palace situated above.
Inside, the building retains several fireplaces and Victorian ranges.
