Description
Glasgow House, which includes County Cleaners, Halifax Building Society, and Shoe Repairs, is a single-storey U-plan structure built from whitewashed brick. The front is symmetrical with six windows and features a stepped plinth and a dentil cornice. At the center, there is a tall open pedimented doorcase with double boarded doors. The building has a hipped slate roof and a red brick chimney stack with later capping. The windows are 12-pane sash types with cambered voussoir heads.
The rear of the building is also whitewashed brick but has modern alterations. There is a small courtyard that contains a relocated cast-iron lamp-post and is bordered by a revetment wall that has been heightened in brick, with the grounds of the old palace situated above it.
Inside, the building retains fireplaces and Victorian ranges.
