Description

The Barrow Arms Public House is a single-storey building designed in a U-plan layout, featuring a symmetrical six-window front made of whitewashed brick. It has a stepped plinth and a dentil cornice. The central entrance is marked by a tall open pedimented doorcase with double boarded doors. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there is a red brick chimney stack with a later capping. The windows are 12-pane sash style, each with cambered voussoir heads.

The rear of the building is also whitewashed brick but has undergone modern alterations. A small courtyard at the back includes a relocated cast-iron lamp-post and is enclosed by a revetment wall that has been heightened in brick, with the grounds of the old palace situated above.

Inside, the building retains several fireplaces and Victorian ranges.
