Description

The Former House of Thomas Gee is a three-storey town house built of brick in Flemish bond, featuring sandstone quoins and dressings, which is now painted. It has a hipped slate roof with lead flashings and a moulded eaves course. The facade consists of three bays and was originally symmetrical, although the ground floor now appears asymmetrical. The central bay is narrower than the flanking bays, is advanced, and has a pediment.

The entrance is centrally located and features a moulded stone architrave and a pediment supported by elongated consoles. The original six-panel door has the upper four panels glazed. To the left of the entrance is a plain shop window that is slightly advanced and has a plain cornice and blind box. The right-hand bay contains a large canted wooden bay window with large pane cross-glazing and a flat lead roof. A modern plaque noting Thomas Gee's occupancy is affixed to the right of the entrance.

On the first floor, there are smaller canted bay windows in the outer bays, each with a 12-pane central section and 8-pane side sections, topped with hipped slate roofs. The central first-floor bay features a primary 12-pane unhorned sash window with a flat-arched lintel and a projecting stone sill, while the second floor has similar, squatter windows located under the eaves.

To the right of the entrance is a raised terrace made of limestone ashlar, which projects slightly forward and is topped with decorative cast iron railings from the second quarter of the 19th century. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
