Description
The HSBC Bank is a two-and-a-half storey building designed in a simple Gothic style. It is constructed of snecked limestone with yellow sandstone dressings and features a renewed slate roof with a decorative tiled ridge. The facade is symmetrical with three bays, and the central bay is designed as a two-storey porch projection.
The ground floor of the porch has a tall Tudor-arched entrance that is chamfered, with a returned and moulded label featuring foliated stops. The sides of the porch have sloping buttresses that are flush with the front, and there are six-panel moulded double doors. Above this, the upper stage consists of a canted stone bay that sits on the semi-octagonal upper section of the porch, achieved by splaying the sides at the top. This bay has a hipped roof covered with original slates and lead flashings, along with a moulded cornice.
A modern bank sign is attached to the base of this bay and extends to both sides. The ground floor features large plain-glazed modern windows in simple primary openings flanking the porch. On the first floor, there are paired sash windows, while the second floor has single sashes set within large gabled dormers that have coped and kneelered parapets. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
