Description
Nos. 11-37 Beacon's Hill form a long, staggered terrace of cottages built in the second half of the 19th century, arranged in a broad curve as they descend the hill. The terrace includes 13 one-window, two-storey cottages, most of which are arranged as reflected pairs. No. 11 has an additional ground-floor window, and exhibits earlier brickwork in the lower part of its chimney, potentially suggesting an earlier origin, possibly the second quarter or mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed of rendered brick with shared brick stacks and slate roofs with tiled ridges. The stacks to Nos. 13 and 15 and Nos. 21-5 are rendered. The roof is continuous until No. 15 and steps down slightly in sections of mostly two as the terrace descends the hill. The original doors were of a late Victorian style, with four panels; those to Nos. 33 and 35 being partly glazed. Modern replacement doors are present at Nos. 11, 17, 23, 27, 29, 31 and 37. No. 29 also has an additional entrance with a boarded door to the left. The windows are plain, recessed four-pane sashes with projecting stone sills. The terrace is part of a larger group of 14 buildings.
