Description
Nos. 11-37 Beacon’s Hill form a long, staggered terrace of cottages built in the second half of the 19th century, designed to follow the curve of the hillside. The terrace comprises 13 two-storey cottages, each with one window, with the exceptions of the end cottages and numbers 25 and 27, which are arranged as reflected pairs. Number 11 has an additional window on the ground floor and exhibits earlier brickwork in the lower portion of its chimney, indicating a possible origin in the second quarter or mid-19th century. The construction is of rendered brick, with shared brick stacks, and slate roofs with tiled ridges. The rendered stacks are located at numbers 13 and 15, and at numbers 21-5. The roofline is continuous up to number 15 and noticeably steps down in sections of mostly two cottages as the terrace descends the hill. Doors are recessed and originally of a late Victorian style with four panels, with those at numbers 33 and 35 being part-glazed. The doors at numbers 11, 17, 23, 27, 29, 31 and 37 have been replaced, and number 29 includes an additional entrance with a boarded door to the left. The windows are plain, recessed sash windows with four panes, and have projecting stone sills. This terrace is part of a group of 14 buildings.
