Description
35 Beacon's Hill is part of a long staggered terrace of cottages built in the second half of the 19th century, which descends the hill in a broad curve. The terrace includes 13 two-storey cottages, each with one window, arranged mainly as reflected pairs, except for the end units and nos 25 and 27. No. 11 features an extra window on the ground floor and has older brickwork on the lower part of its chimney, indicating it may have origins from the second quarter or mid-19th century. The cottages are made of rendered brick with shared brick stacks and have slate roofs with tiled ridges. The stacks for nos 13 and 15 and nos 21-25 are rendered, and the roofline steps down slightly in blocks of mostly two as the terrace goes down the hill. The doors are recessed and of the late Victorian 4-panel type, with nos 33 and 35 having part-glazed doors. The doors for nos 11, 17, 23, 27, 29, 31, and 37 are modern, and no. 29 has an additional entrance with a boarded door to the left. The windows are plain, recessed 4-pane sashes with projecting stone sills.
