Description
37 Beacon's Hill is part of a long staggered terrace of cottages built in the second half of the 19th century, which descends the hill in a broad curve. The terrace includes 13 two-storey cottages, each with one window, and most are arranged as reflected pairs, except for the end units and numbers 25 and 27. Number 11 features an extra ground floor window and has earlier brickwork at the lower part of its chimney, indicating it may have origins from the second quarter or mid-19th century. The cottages are made of rendered brick with shared brick chimney stacks and have slate roofs with tiled ridges. The chimney stacks for numbers 13 and 15, as well as numbers 21 to 25, are rendered. The roof is continuous until number 15 and steps down slightly in blocks of mostly two as the terrace goes down the hill. The doors are recessed and of late Victorian four-panel type, with those for numbers 33 and 35 being part-glazed. The doors for numbers 11, 17, 23, 27, 29, 31, and 37 are modern, and number 29 has an additional entrance with a boarded door to the left. The windows are plain, recessed four-pane sashes with projecting stone sills.
