Description
Nos. 11-37 Beacon’s Hill form a long, staggered terrace of cottages built in the second half of the 19th century, arranged in a broad curve as they descend the hill. The terrace comprises 13 two-storey cottages, most of which have a single window on each floor and are arranged in pairs that mirror each other. Number 11 has an extra window to the ground floor and exhibits earlier brickwork in the lower portion of its chimney, implying an earlier origin, possibly in the second quarter or mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed of rendered brick with shared brick stacks and slate roofs with tiled ridges. The rendered stacks are located at numbers 13 and 15 and numbers 21-5. The roof is continuous until number 15, then steps down slightly in sections, generally consisting of two cottages. The recessed doors are of a late Victorian style, with four panels, and the doors at numbers 33 and 35 are partially glazed. Modern replacement doors are present at numbers 11, 17, 23, 27, 29, 31 and 37. Number 29 also has an additional entrance with a boarded door to the left. The windows are plain recessed sashes with four panes and projecting stone sills. The terrace belongs to a group of 14 similar buildings.
