Description
Nos. 11-37 Beacon's Hill form a long, staggered terrace of cottages built in the second half of the 19th century, designed to follow the broad curve of the hillside. The terrace comprises 13 two-storey cottages, each with a single window, arranged in reflected pairs, with the exception of the end cottages and numbers 25 and 27. Number 11 is an exception, possessing an additional window on the ground floor and displaying older brickwork in the lower part of its chimney, suggesting it may have earlier origins, potentially from the second quarter or mid-19th century. The cottages are built of rendered brick with shared brick stacks, and have slate roofs with tiled ridges. The rendered stacks are present at numbers 13 and 15, and numbers 21-5. The roofline is continuous until number 15, and steps down slightly in sections of mostly two cottages as the terrace descends. Original late Victorian doors, of a four-panel design, are recessed; those at numbers 33 and 35 are partially glazed. Modern replacement doors are at numbers 11, 17, 23, 27, 29, 31 and 37. Number 29 also features an additional entrance with a boarded door to the left. The windows are plain, recessed sashes with four panes, and feature projecting stone sills. The terrace belongs to a group of 14 buildings.
