Description
Nos. 11-37 Beacon's Hill form a long, staggered terrace of cottages built in the second half of the 19th century, following a broad curve down the hill. The terrace comprises 13 one-window, two-storey cottages, most arranged as reflected pairs. No. 11 is an exception, having an additional window on the ground floor and exhibiting older brickwork in the lower part of its chimney, which may indicate an earlier origin, potentially in the second quarter or mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed of rendered brick with shared brick stacks and have slate roofs with tiled ridges. The stacks to nos. 13 and 15 and nos. 21-5 are rendered. The roof is continuous until no. 15, stepping down slightly in blocks of mainly two as the terrace descends. The original doors were of a late Victorian style, recessed four-panel design, with those at nos. 33 and 35 being part-glazed. The doors at nos. 11, 17, 23, 27, 29, 31 and 37 have been replaced with modern versions. No. 29 also features an additional entrance with a boarded door on the left-hand side. The windows are plain, recessed sashes with four panes, and have projecting stone sills. This terrace is part of a larger group of 14 buildings.
