West Range of Farm Buildings at Pydew Farm

The West Range of Farm Buildings at Pydew Farm consists of a long main range running north to south and a smaller three-bay range at right angles at the southern end, both covered with slate roofs. The main range is constructed partly of brickwork and partly of uncoursed axe-dressed local limestone, including the southern range.

Starting from the south, the main range features three lofted cartsheds made from similar materials. The cart openings are elliptical-headed, with full-height loft doors above and a doorway leading to a staircase. Next is a section of rendered brickwork that has lost its loft and is now used as a cowhouse, featuring segmental-headed doors and square loft hatches. At the right end of this brickwork section is a former shire horse stable, which has a segmental arched central doorway, a segmental arched window on each side, and a square loft hatch flanked by two vents above. The rear elevation is irregular, made of stone or brick, with a lean-to along the northern four bays of the range, and extensive modern cattle sheds adjacent. There are also full-height double doors.

The southern range, positioned at right angles, includes ventilation slots on the east and south sides, along with a large cart door to the south that has a split boarded door.

The buildings feature 19th-century trusses throughout, with king posts or struts. The shire horse stables still retain six stalls with robust divisions.
