Farmbuildings at Rhydorrdwy Fawr Farm

The farm buildings at Rhydorrdwy Fawr Farm date from around 1840 and form three sides of a courtyard, designed and built as a cohesive unit, with the farmhouse located at the back across the fourth side of the yard. They are constructed from coursed and squared stone and topped with a slate roof.

The east-west range at the north of the complex features a cart entry in the advanced central bay, which is adorned with wooden dove nesting boxes arranged in three tiers above it. There are tiered vents for storage bays on either side, followed by paired segmentally arched wide entrances that have stressed keystones in their voussoir heads on the lower floor, while the loft windows above have simpler voussoirs.

The north-south range to the east includes three arcaded bays on the left, with a single loft window above. This range also has segmentally arched doorways and flanking windows that serve the stable or cowhouse, all featuring voussoir heads. The upper openings are square-headed, some fitted with wooden shutters, while others have fixed light windows with six and eight panes.

In the west range, there is a similar open arcade of six bays, followed by a round-arched doorway and flanking windows, with round pitching eyes above. Some openings have been inserted due to a change in use of part of the range to a dwelling.
