Description
Hendre Blaenau is a two-storey vernacular house built with a front elevation facing south. It features an outshot to the north and a single-storey outbuilding and privy attached to the east gable end. The house is constructed of roughcast rendered rubble masonry, which is painted on the south and part of the north elevation, while the west gable end is hung with Welsh slates. The roofs are gabled and covered with Welsh slates, featuring a clayware ridge and a catslide over the outshot. A rendered brick chimney stack rises above the east gable, and there is a brick ridge stack along the west gable end of the original house.
The symmetrical front elevation of the original cottage includes a central boarded door set within a gabled porch made of rendered brick with a slate roof. On either side of the door, the ground and first-floor windows are 8/8-pane sash windows. The house has been extended to the west without any break in the roofline or frontage, featuring a matching 8/8 sash window on the ground floor alongside a part-glazed door to the west, and a 4/4 horizontal sliding sash window on the first floor. The ground floor openings have cambered heads, while the first-floor windows are located beneath the eaves. Additionally, there are three small unmatching casement windows in the outshot.
Inside the original building, the ground floor ceilings are made of oak and are framed in three directions, with a main cross beam spanning north to south, along with stop-chamfered spine beams and joists. There is a large fireplace with a kitchen range in the west bay. The first-floor rooms are partially within the roof space and feature sloping ceilings.
